Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this interdisciplinary PhD seminar we will explore a broad range of aspects to do with the learning and teaching of literatures (in the wider sense) and literacies. We are currently witnessing a rapid extension of potential literacies for learners of all ages from more well-known bundles of competences, such as multimodal, critical or visual literacies, to more specific forms, such as algorithmic, climate or peace literacies. This development raises questions of ownership and responsibility and draws our attention to the moving target of young people's media lifeworlds and what is expected of them in the future, as both learners and teachers.
This PhD seminar invites participants from a range of disciplines with an interest and expertise in areas of learning languages, literatures, culture(s) and/or media, but also topics such as history, digital competences, or environmental pedagogy, or indeed general questions of learning and pedagogy. This seminar is based on pooling participants' knowledge, insights and positions about learning and teaching, and hopes to contribute to the individual PhD projects by taking a step back and considering the issues from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The course will be held in English to accommodate for international students, but students' final written contribution can be in German. The class will be held on site but international students (i.e. those outside Austria) will be given the opportunity to attend online (via zoom). Please note that this is the exception rather than the rule and get in touch with me if you require online participation.
