Design Curricula and Teaching Materials with LASLLIAM
Literacy And Second Language Learning for the Linguistic Integration of Adult Learners (LASLLIAM) is a reference guide that the Council of Europe has recently provided to teachers, curriculum developers and policy-makers working with non- or low-literate adult migrants. It intends to offer them support in designing and implementing quality teaching targeted to the specific needs of that target group. LASLLIAM builds on the CEFR, whose approach it adopts, and presents progression scales below and up to CEFR level A1. In the lecture, we will examine how to use LASLLIAM in designing curricula, focusing on the didactic planning of a course and a teaching unit (e.g. a lesson). Examples of teaching materials produced in the piloting phase of LASLLIAM and already tested in classroom practice will be presented.
